Short answer: Joshua Tree National Park has two RV dump stations, at Black Rock Campground (near campsite 6) and at Cottonwood (between the visitor center and the campground). They cost $5 to use, and you can pay at any park entrance station before or after you dump. The same two spots have RV water fill stations. The center of the park has no potable water. Drinking water in the park

• RV fill stations: Black Rock Campground (near campsite 6) and Cottonwood (between the visitor center and the campground).
• Water jugs can be filled at the West Entrance Station, Indian Cove Ranger Station, Black Rock and Cottonwood campgrounds, and Park Headquarters (northeast section of the parking lot).
• Bottle fill stations are at the Black Rock Nature Center, the West Entrance Station and the Joshua Tree National Park Visitor Center.
• No potable water in the center of the park. Bring plenty.

Where you can (and can't) sleep in an RV

The NPS is explicit: you can sleep in your vehicle only at a lawfully occupied, designated campsite. Sleeping in your vehicle anywhere else is illegal, including trailheads, dirt roads, parking lots and roadsides. A vehicle towing a trailer, or a motorhome towing a car, counts as two vehicles toward a site's vehicle limit. The park has no overflow parking.

Reservations are required at Indian Cove, Black Rock, Jumbo Rocks, Ryan and Cottonwood (plus the group sites), through Recreation.gov or 1-877-444-6777, up to six months ahead. Hidden Valley, Belle and White Tank are first-come, first-served. On the NPS campground list, only Black Rock and Cottonwood have both water and a dump station.
